UV VERTICAL LED ON METAL SUBSTRATE

2006-11-01

Milpitas, California, November 1, 2006 - SemiLEDs Corporation announced today the availability in volume of near-UV LED on metal substrate. SemiLEDs' NUV MvpLED chips offer superior performance with advantages not found in conventional LED.

With the metal base, MvpLED chips dissipate heat more rapidly and effectively than other LED chips, resulting in lower junction temperature and higher efficacy of photon recombination in the active layer. Further, due to their unique structure, MvpLED chips do not come with a transparent contact, a required feature in conventional LED that is known to absorb NUV photons. At 400nm, an internal quantum efficiency of 35% was achieved at 1W continuous operation for 40 mil chip.

NUV MvpLED chips are available in 15, 40 and 60 mils, with wavelength ranging from 375 nm to 420 nm. They are designed to suit customer's applications, which may include water purification, medical diagnostics, document validation, adhesive, polymer and ink curings, solid state lighting, as well as many other applications involving UV activation.

"SemiLEDs' MvpLED chips exhibit tremendous performance by near-UV LED not seen before," said Trung Doan, CEO of SemiLEDs. " MvpLED chips' unmatched advantages over other LED chips are due to their unique structure and metal base, including their heat-dissipation feature."
